What are the general requirements to hire a car?
A: All drivers must hold a valid credit card issued in their name, driving license for at least 1 year. The minimum age to rent is 23yrs.

Can anyone else other than myself drive the car?
A: Only drivers mentioned in the rental agreement are allowed to drive a Sapphire vehicle.

Does Sapphire allow Additional Drivers?
A: Yes, you may add an additional driver onto your rental agreement. This must be done at the time of rental. The additional driver must present a valid driving license at time of rent. You can also add an additional driver onto your rental agreement during your rental. To do this the driver and the additional driver can visit any Sapphire Rental location. The additional driver must present a valid driving license and must comply with age restrictions.

How much does it cost to add an additional driver?
A: The daily cost is €5 per day including VAT.

What deposits must be paid?
A: At the time of rental an authorization is obtained on your credit card based on the estimated rental charges plus a guarantee fee. This deposit will vary according to the location, make and model of the vehicle. There must be sufficient credit on your credit card to cover all charges. Where payment is by cash, a deposit based on the estimated cost of rental including additional charges (insurances, surcharges, special equipment etc.) plus the amount of the non waivable excess for the vehicle rented will be applied to the rental – subject to a minimum amount, variable by location.

General terms of use and conditions

Can I tow with a Sapphire car?
A: No. Towing is a violation of the rental agreement and is not permitted under any circumstances.

What happens if I drop the car at a different location other than indicated?
A: When you change the return location a higher rate may apply. Please contact your local Sapphire Reservations Office for details.

What is the policy on off-road driving?
A: Sapphire vehicles, including 4-wheel drives, are to be operated only on regularly maintained roads. Off-road use is in violation of the rental agreement.

Can I remove the seats from the vehicle?
A: No, you are not allowed to remove any of the seats of the car.

What happens if I return the car late?
A: There is a 30 minute grace period. After the grace period has expired a full day’s charge will apply.

What happens if I return the car earlier?
A: In the case you return the car earlier than the agreed delivery date, there will be no refund.

What if I have a problem with the car?
A: If you should have the misfortune to suffer a breakdown, you should immediately contact EUROP ASSISTANCE road assistance on 210 34 97 073 (available 24/7). You must also contact your Sapphire rental office.

What if I have an accident?
A: You should contact the police immediately on 100, and then contact Sapphire rental office and advise them on the situation.

May I travel abroad with the vehicle I have rented and what are the relevant formalities?
A: Travel abroad with the SAPPHIRE vehicle is not allowed.

If I accept the CDW am I covered for any loss that may arise?
A: No, there are exceptions for damages which are not covered by any insurance. Such cases are single damages to the lower part of the vehicle, wheels and tires. Also not covered are damages due to driving on an improper road surface, towing another vehicle, transfer of explosives, rallying, etc.

How can I book a car on Sapphirerental.com?
A. With four simple steps found on the homepage:

  1. First step: Fill in the “Reservation” box Pick up/Return location date and time. If you wish you can narrow down your search by choosing the class of car you’d like to rent (if not you will come up with the full range of cars.) The coupon code if you have, a promotional coupon.
  2. Second Step: Choose your preferred vehicle.
  3. Third Step: Choose any Extras example baby seat, Extra Driver, Free mileage on 1-2day rentals (KLM), GPS Navigator (GPS).
  4. Forth Step: Fill in the reservations details and payment method.

Can I choose a particular car brand or model?
A. Bookings are subject to a specific car group, which includes several different car models with similar features. You can ask for a specific model during the pick-up, whether it is available.

What is the minimum/maximum period for a car rental on Sapphirerental.com?
A. The minimum period for a car rental is 1 day and the maximum is thirty (30) days. For a longer duration please contact Sapphire office.

What is the payment methods ?
A. You can either choose to via bank transfer or credit card. You have to prepay the cost of the first day of your reservation, by using your credit or debit card or bank transfer. Please note that in case of using a debit card to pre-pay your reservation cost, you will also be asked to present a valid credit card  during the pick-up of your car.

Which cards are accepted?
A. Visa, Mastercard and American Express debit and credit cards are accepted. We do not accept prepaid cards.

Will I receive a confirmation for my reservation?
A. Upon successful completion of your reservation, you will receive a confirmation email on the address you provided during your reservation.

Can I change my reservation? Is there a charge?
A. You can only change your reservation’s pick up and drop off date, time and location, assuming the change concerns a location in the same city – up to 3 hours before the pick-up time you have put on your reservation. To make a modification in your reservation, click on the “I have a reservation code, found in the reservation box in the homepage and insert the reservation’s reference number (e.g. R7ANREZD). Please note that changes to the reservation are subject to a recalculation of the reservation’s cost, based on the availability and prices at the time the change is made. For on-request reservations, you can only modify the drop off/pick-up location assuming the change concerns a location in the same city. You cannot modify the selected vehicle category or the driver’s or credit card’s data. For these cases please cancel the reservation and make a new one. Please note that this may be subject to cancellation fees.

Can I cancel my reservation? Is there a charge?
A. You can cancel your reservation free of charge up to 48 hours before the pick-up time you have provided during the reservation process. If you cancel your reservation after the 48 hours before the pick-up date and time, the first day of the reservation will not be refunded.

What happens if I do not show up on the specified pick-up date and time? Is there a charge?
A. In case you do not show-up on the pick-up time that you provided during your reservation, with no prior written notification, Sapphire has the right to cancel your booking after the end of a 30 minutes grace period and charge a your full reservation fee.

Can I use a credit card to make a reservation that I am not the cardholder?
A. No. In order to pick up the reserved vehicle, the card holder must present the card under which the reservation was made. The card holder will appear as the driver on the rental agreement.

What is Verified by Visa and Mastercard SecureCode?
A. Verified by Visa and Mastercard Secure Code is an additional security layer based on the 3D Secure protocol aiming to reduce the risk of unauthorized card use, by certifying the cardholder when conducting an online transaction through filling in the personal security password you entered during your card registration process. The service is provided to the cardholder by the issuing bank in cooperation with the respective financial institution (Visa or Mastercard).

I have not enrolled my card for Verified by Visa/Mastercard SecureCode. Can I still make an online reservation?
A. In order to provide a safe environment for your online transactions, our company uses the aforementioned authentication services for transactions made by Visa or Mastercard cardholders at www.sapphirerental.com. If your cards issuer is enrolled to provide the service, then after completing your personal and card data you will be asked to fill in your password you have provided during the activation of the service. In case you have not registered your card for the service, you will be able to use your card for up to 3 online transactions. After that please contact the issuing bank to activate the respective authentication service on your card.
